Me he dado por
vencida en lo que respecta a series de época, pero aun la calidad de lo
ofrecido este año en términos de series contemporáneas es deprimente y mediocre.
No veo mejora para el resto de la estación estival. Esto es lo más rescatable
de este verano.
Francamente, mi
Smart Tv me ha defraudado. Sigo teniendo problemas de Wifi, así que aparte de
Netflix y Acorn, no tengo acceso a las plataformas de streaming más que un par
de días a la semana y lo que he visto este junio es un desastre. Siguiendo un
listado del NYT de lo que ver este verano intenté probar un bocado de Sugar,
pero, como con Spider Noir, ese intento del Noir detectivesco situado en
la Los Ángeles moderna y con toques de ciencia ficción, me dejó …contenta de no
poder acceder a Apple tv.
Siguiendo con
Apple, traté de ver Star City y es penoso observar a actores veteranos
fingiendo ser soviéticos. Al menos en Ponies, tenían actores rusos y los gringos se esmeraban en hablar ruso. No pretendo
ver Cape Fear así que no tengo que apurar el mal trago. Me encantó la
original, me perturbo hasta la náusea la versión Scorsese, no necesito más.
Paramount es un
desorden, tal vez porque están en proceso de combinarse con más plataformas (¿HBO y
Warner? Wow! Habrá que ver eso.) He intentado seguir Marshals y Dutton
Ranch, pero los personajes―todos tóxicos y antipáticos―me han
hecho huirles.
HBO MAX me dejó tan agotada después del final horroroso de Euphoria, que solo la lealtad a la obra de Ser George me obligaba a ver la temporada final de House of the Dragon. Dos capítulos y no me quejo. Mucho mas entretenida y activa que la pasada. Dragones por doquier, y ya nos libramos de Jace y del tuerto. Ahora que se vaya Ser Creston y seré feliz. Además…¡bono! Tom Cullen como Ser Lex Luthor, o como se llame.
Es en Hulu donde
he encontrado una mega sorpresa y para hablarles de ella voy a tener que detener
mi exploración de la cultura adolescente por un ratito. Se trata de The Season.
El 21 de junio tuvimos el primer vistazo
a esta miniserie de los creadores de Crazy Rich Asians. Hecha en Hong
Kong, retrata un mundo de familias ricas que luchan por el poder en los
negocios familiares, a lo Sucession, pero también de escándalos del jet
set y de una chica vengativa que ya recuerda a Revenge.
En cambio
Netflix. Oy veh! Es irónico que la única plataforma que puedo ver en
ambos sistemas sea tan mediocre en su oferta. No sé a cuál le huyo más si a Rosario
Tijeras en su tercera temporada o a la nueva versión de El Señor de las Moscas,
de la cual nadie habla. Así de mala será. Sin embargo es donde encuentras la
oferta de época de este verano.
JULIO
Primero: Verano
del ’36: (Ete ’36)
Se trata de una
miniserie limitada de seis episodios creada por Marie Deshaires y Catherine
Touzet, y dirigida por Frédéric Garson. La trama sigue a cuatro mujeres de diferente
extracción social que, durante el verano de 1936 se verán involucradas en un
asesinato ocurrido en un lujoso hotel de Niza. En un contexto marcado por la
llegada de las primeras vacaciones pagadas en Francia, la convivencia entre la
burguesía y la clase trabajadora genera tensiones y contrastes sociales. En
medio de este choque de mundos, el crimen actúa como detonante.
Un gusto saber
que la televisión gala sigue haciendo dramas de época, pero el que la haya
comprado Netflix ya la hace sospechosa. Es un producto de la nueva relación
comercial entre la plataforma y el canal francés TFI , la misma dupla culpable
de horrores como El Bazar de Caridad y Las Combatientes.
Julio 9 La
Casita en la Pradera (Netflix)
Yo digo que voy a
verla para reírme. No puedo imaginarme una adaptación que supere a la icónica
serie de Los 70. Además, solo imaginarme que Netflix se haya hecho cargo de un
proyecto tan delicado, y ya no puedo tomarlo en serio.
17 Pompeii
(Hulu/Disney)
El National
Georaphic nos trae este docudrama sobre el siempre fascinante tema del Vesubio
y la destrucción de Pompeya y Herculano. Tom Hiddleston narra este relato que
incluye dramatizados combinados con información factual. A me encantan los
docudramas y vi no de este tema que hizo la BBC en el 2003 con Tim Piggot-Smith
como Plinio, el Viejo. Espero este le llegue a la altura. La diferencia es que el docudrama no se enfoca en los enterrados por la ceniza volcánica sino en los pocos afortunados que sobrevivieron.

5. Cien Años de Soledad (Netflix)
Llega la conclusión
de esta adaptación de la saga de Gabriel García Marquez sobre la prodigiosa y
escandalosa Familia Buendia y los quehaceres del mítico pueblo de Macondo.

12. Las Azules:
Temporada 2 (Apple tv)
En la temporada
anterior dejamos a la comisaria todavía en manos de policías machistas y semi
corruptos y a María (Bárbara Mori) con un asesino en serie siguiéndola y un
dilema sentimental: volver con el marido infiel o seguir con su romance poco
recomendable con su jefe. Ahora nos dice la sinopsis se encontrará con otros
problemas. La han ascendido a teniente y se ha tropezado con un cadáver de una víctima
de la masacre de Tlatelolco.
Como ven no hay
mucho. Otoño se ve lejano , pero esperamos ver varios period drama todos
localizados en The Gilded Age, o sea en los 1880s. Netflix nos ha prometido,
antes de diciembre, presentar a Florence Pugh en la nueva adaptación de East
of Eden de John Steinbeck. Además traerá una miniserie polaca, La Muñeca
que también tiene lugar en esa época, The Gilded Age llegara en este
otoño a HBO. Por fin veremos como Bertha ha sobrevivido estos cinco años
después de su divorcio.

ResponderEliminarNot much, if anything, to look forward to this summer, sadly. I am not watching the Netflix two as they do not interest me, sadly.
I am watching Robin Hood and it is terrible, boring cast and boring scripts, the same goes for Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin which has the worst lead actor ever, but the rest of them are not bad in the cast. I am also finishing the sixth temporada of All Creatures Great and Small, which gives me lots of comfort even though it defo is not their best temporada. Rings of Power should also return this Autumn, but I am not sure if I will watch it. The first season was great, but the second one was dreadful. We will also get some Polish and French and German costume dramas on Shitflix till the end of the year. And also the return of the Forsytes this Autumn.

EliminarI had that vibe with Ponies, the same I have with the Season and The Breslau Murders. Great series that do not merit second season because they had no positive public response. The question is why spend so much money in making a series, and zero coin in marketing them. Most people I’ve known never heard of Ponies.
I’m watching a lot of stuff, old and new. Can’t complain. Netflix removed Galmore Girls before I could finish it. Because of the heat and the storms, my WIFI only works in the Smart Tv twice a week, so I spend my time in cable which really means Netflix. I’m watching a Canadian Series Heartland, a neo western Ransom Canyon and Nashville. Hope, Netflix doesn’t remove them. Today I started with My Life with the Walter Boys.
I Thought Robin Hood would be dull. It’s like The Agency that did merit a second season in Paramount, but it’s so slow, and talky and boring… No action for a spy drama
Ransom Canyon is getting a second season next month, I think, they released a trailer a few days ago.
EliminarThe heat is unbearable, I do not recall such hell on Earth, when I go out to the garden at 2 or 3pm it is as if somebody has put us in the oven, the skin literally cracks and sizzles, the plastic melts, the plants die... and it is only June, imagine July and August, I already measured 50C last year, imagine 55 or god forbid 60 in the sun, it would be the death of all of us. And rain avoids my city for some reason, they forecast it for days and for days it just slips around our city and goes south, while plants are turning into ashes. The worst is that in my wisdom of a foreseer and warlock I knew this was gonna happen and last twenty years kept relentlessly planting conifers around our yard in hope to build up a forest which would lower the temp for us at least for five or ten degrees, but my evil brother and mother kept plucking them out, vile creatures. They plucked so far over 95 of my trees, imagine if they let just ten or twenty of them grow, we would now have ten or twenty year old trees around the house. Wretched morons.
Well, your evil moronic siblings will suffer, let’s worry about you now. Do you have AC units in your side of the house? Then stay indoors as much as possible. Drink, drink, drink. Not alcohol, not caffeinated drinks, but not just water, add something to it. I find that flavored beverages quench your thirst better, like drop a rind of lemon inside the glass. Don’t cook, don’t eat hot food. Just salads, fruits and ice cream or sherbets. Today is very grueling in NY and is a fast day in Judaism so no drinking till sundown, but I’m ok. My brother’s medication comes in boxes surrounded by packed blocks of ice. I don’t throw them away, keep in the freeze and when I lay down in my bed and I don’t want the AC on, I place one (inside a pillowcase) under my pillow. Is like having AC in bed. If you can’t get blocks, keep ice cubes in a plastic bag and wrap them in cloth, never place your skin in contact with the ice and place them under your pillow. Other old tricks. Wet your pajamas or whatever you wear to sleep and freeze them so by the time you go to bed they are natural coolers, the same for pillowcases, and spray eau the cologne on your sheets, it does the trick. good luck, my Gato friend! Ohh and don’t forget to provide plenty of clean water for felines and add ice cubes.

I have an AC in my room, but it does not cover my bathroom since we have open staircase and I cannot leave the doors open. It is 30C in the hall, toilet and kitchen all the time. I have to cook five meals a day as I am a glufree no refined food eater LOL And that means using oven daily. I also do not eat sugar, nor bought sweets.
